Always On, Even Off-Grid
Island mode means your site can run as its own power system when the grid goes down. With battery storage, smart control, and optional renewables, you keep critical loads powered and reconnect smoothly when the grid returns, all certified to EU standards and supported locally in Sweden.

How island mode works
Five simple steps from grid power to independent operation and back again.

Normal operation
Your site runs on the grid and the battery optimises cost and readiness.

Grid isolated
The Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) disconnects the site safely when an outage is detected.

Battery start
The BESS energises the local system and stabilises voltage and frequency.
Independent power
Critical loads keep running as your site operates as a microgrid.

Seamless re-sync
The EMS matches grid conditions and reconnects without interruption.

Choose the setup that fits your needs
Every site is different. EnBrilion provides three proven island mode system alternatives — from compact single-unit hybrids to scalable multi-unit setups. Each solution is built on our TÜV-certified, fire-safe LFP technology with advanced cooling. We always supply the ESS backbone, and can also deliver and integrate PV and diesel generators if required.

Single-Unit Hybrid ESS
All-in-One Hybrid ESS — with optional PV and diesel
A compact solution that combines battery storage with grid connection, solar PV, and diesel backup in one unit. If PV or diesel is already installed on-site, the ESS integrates seamlessly. If not, EnBrilion can provide a full turnkey system including these components. Liquid-cooled for reliable operation in Nordic climates.
ESS is the backbone. PV and diesel can be integrated from your site or supplied by EnBrilion.
Multi-Unit Parallel Systems
Scalable Multi-Unit ESS — MW-level island mode
For larger facilities, multiple BESS connected via the EnBrilion Energy Gateway can operate in parallel, scaling seamlessly to megawatt-level microgrids that ensure continuous operation of critical infrastructure. Each unit integrates with PV and can connect with diesel backup through site infrastructure. Customers can use existing installations, or EnBrilion can deliver PV and diesel as part of a turnkey solution. Immersion cooling ensures the highest safety and uptime.
ESS is the backbone. PV and diesel can be integrated from your site or supplied by EnBrilion.

Standard C&I ESS
Reliable C&I ESS — flexible integration options
A robust immersion- or liquid-cooled ESS for sites that don’t require direct PV input. Designed for backup, peak shaving, and load shifting, with the option to connect diesel backup via site infrastructure. If needed, EnBrilion can also supply and integrate PV or diesel solutions for a complete system.
ESS is the backbone. PV and diesel are optional — integrate existing assets or let us deliver them.
Island Mode for Critical Infrastructure
EnBrilion island mode keeps hospitals, data centers, telecom networks, industry and logistics running even during power outages. As a resilient microgrid solution, it safeguards the critical infrastructure society depends on. Already trusted by Swedish municipalities and industry to secure power resilience.

Hospitals and care
Keep wards, labs and IT systems running.
Data centers and IT

Protect uptime and equipment through grid events.

Telecom and broadcast
Ensure base stations and networks stay online.

Industry and logistics
Avoid production stops and costly downtime.

Public safety hubs
Maintain operations at emergency services and shelters.
Remote and weak grid sites

Farms, islands or construction areas where stability is limited.

FAQ — Island Mode (Ö-drift)
-
What is island mode and why do I need it?
Island mode lets your site run as its own microgrid during an outage. Power stays on for your critical loads until the grid is back. -
Can I finance an island mode system?
Yes. EnBrilion offers flexible business models in partnership with Nordic Finance — including leasing, peak shaving contracts, and ancillary service participation. -
Do solar panels work during a power outage?
Not on their own. With EnBrilion’s battery, controller and ATS, solar can keep producing during island mode. -
How fast does the switch happen?
Instantly and automatically. You won’t notice the transition when the grid fails. -
How big should the battery be?
We size it to match your critical loads and runtime needs, with room to expand later. -
Can I keep using my generator?
Yes. The EMS coordinates generator use, while the battery cuts fuel, noise and wear. -
Is it safe?
Yes. Our systems use LFP chemistry, liquid cooling, fire suppression and IP55 steel enclosures with cell-level monitoring. -
What about regulations in Sweden?
All systems are designed and commissioned to Nordic and EU standards and local grid codes. -
Can an island-mode system save money too?
Yes. In normal mode the battery reduces peaks, optimises renewables and can join flexibility markets.
